Why The Investment In Non-Toxic Cookware Is Important
If you’ve shopped around for cookware anytime over the past year or two, there’s a good chance you’ve been bombarded by several brands advertising as being non-toxic. What does non-toxic REALLY mean though? I’ve broken down what I found and what to look for below so that shopping is less stressful and more enjoyable!
What you want to AVOID in your cookware:
· PTFE: stands for polytetrafluoroethylene and is the coating on many nonstick pans that was introduced in the 1940s. We often see this identified as Teflon. Various studies have spoken on the toxicity of PTFEs, as PTFE coated cookware releases several gases and chemicals that may lead to mild to severe toxicity.
· PFA: stands for polyfluoroalkyl substance. There are more than 9,000 man-made PFA’s and given their strong carbon-flourine bond, they do not break down and over time accumulate in animal tissue and the environment. PFOA (perfluorooctanoic acid, or C8) is the most common PFA and unfortunately, even if a cookware set is “PFA-Free”, there is no guarantee that it is PFOA free because of how several of these cookware sets are manufactured. PFAS have been detected in the blood of most adults and children in the U.S., in umbilical cord blood and breast milk.
Experts cite the safest cookware materials as cast iron, stainless steel, 100% non-toxic ceramic, glass, and enamel-coated cast iron (cast iron with a glass coating). I’ve linked my favorite HERE, and they happen to be hosting major incentives for anyone that purchases until March 31st (Spend $95 get $25 gift card, Spend $195 get $50 gift card, Spend $395 get $100 gift card). My link will also get you an additional 10% off your purchase on the entire site. As always, please feel free to reach out to me on my socials or email with any questions or concerns.
